Oratorical Contest (Day of Service – January 19)
UCLA’s 21st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest.
UCLA students and high school students from Los Angeles Unified School District participate in an oratorical contest. The theme of the event is “45 Years Later: We are the change we’ve been waiting for,” which will evolve around the practices and the preaching of Dr. King, as well as the historic election of the first African American President, Barack Obama, and his vision. The students’ speeches or spoken word pieces will focus on today’s civil rights movement and current social justice issues in the World, United States, or at UCLA/high school.
There will also be entertainment, such as gospel choir, dance performance, and much more. All of the participants (including those performing) are both high school and college students.
