Service for the socially vulnerable (Day of Service – January 19)
Sign-up to visit those who may be vulnerable and provide a couple of hours of sharing, so that these folks know that someone out there cares about their welfare. You can sign-up to visit the elderly at a retirement home, especially those with degenerative illnesses like memory loss (Alzheimer’s). Sunrise Assisted Living in NW DC and in Bethesda are great places to volunteer. Or how about victims of domestic violence? Calvary Shelter in downtown DC is a good option. Please note that you probably have to contact your organization of choice a week in advance so that can sign you up as a volunteer (for the safety of the people they provide services for).
